Administration of molecules in mice and rats via MDA

A French working group bringing together representatives of three organizations (the French 3R Center FC3R, the French network of animal welfare body RN-SBEA, and the French national research infrastructure Celphedia) has been set up to develop the most exhaustive database possible of molecules that can be administered by the MDA (Micropipette-guided Drug Administration) technique. The working group collaborates with the Swiss Rodent MDA Consortium.

MDA is a " refinement" method that can be applied as an alternative for the administration of molecules by gavage or injection in mice and rats and relies on voluntary ingestion by the animals.

One of the main obstacles to the development and use of this technique lies in the lack of clear information concerning the administration of different molecules, particularly in terms of efficacy, experimental conditions and optimization parameters. The time required to develop these protocols is also a significant challenge for teams wishing to implement this approach.

This survey aims to collect:

  • Validated protocols
  • Feedback and user experience
  • Conditions of use

In order to build a resource that will be made available to the community to facilitate the use and development of the MDA technique within the scientific field.

Whether you are already using the MDA technique in your projects or are considering implementing it, your feedback is valuable. We therefore invite you to participate in this survey, the results of which will help enrich a database useful to the entire scientific community.

Practical information and GDPR:

  • The questionnaire includes up to 25 questions per molecule to be completed (up to 5 molecules; for more than 5, please complete multiple surveys) and takes approximately 15 minutes to finish.
  • You can complete it in multiple sessions (click on “Resume later” in the top right).
  • You can prepare your answers by downloading this Word file (please note that you must still complete the online survey afterward to ensure optimal data processing).
  • By completing this survey, you agree that the information entered in this form may be used, processed, and analyzed as part of the project: Administration of molecules by MDA in mice and rats.
  • In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you may exercise your rights of access, rectification, deletion, or objection by contacting: karim.mesbah@igh.cnrs.fr
  • The data will be retained without time limitation (for the entire duration of the project).
  • The survey will close on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
